India, 2010. Field follow up

During the year 2010, news partnerships have been established and new fields discovered.

After several months in the state of West Bengal, a strong relationship with the Indian NGO Mukti was strengthen and solar energy programmes were designed.

In the distant Sunderbans villages where Mukti India carries out its activities, lack of electricity supply is a daily reality. Villagers use kerosene lamps which do not give proper light and have dramatic consequences on eyes and airways. A project on solar power supply was worked out, thanks to the construction of solar stations. Now villagers who are willing to use them can rent a solar lamp for the exactly same amount thana kerosene lamp. They will be able to recharge the lamps at the station.

Easy first-aid treatments access is another important issue because of the lack medical structures. A project of health centre construction is currently devised. This mobile health centre will go in the distant villages so that their inhabitants do not have to walk for hours to see a doctor.

Both of these projects are carried out with Mukti India.

In the South of India, the little Angel School programme (which includes free schooling, medical follow-up and feeding for the children of low cast migrants) is still running.

Feel free to contact us if you want to sponsor a child. At the present, the school cater for the children till the end of the nursery school. Sponsorships allow them to continue their education. Desire India is currently waiting for a primary school’s government accreditation in order to pursue the children education.

In September, InMaLanka accomplished an exploratory visit in the tribal areas og the state of Andhra Pradesh. The 12 night schools created by Desire India for tribal children allow them accessing school support and some food (a lot of households have difficulty to feed their whole family members). The nutritional situation is acute: numerous children suffer from malnutrition and many of them can not walk even when they are over one-year old.

Our aim is therefore to improve the snacks we give to the children in the Night Schools by providing them a complete nutritional and food formula in order to mitigate their house food lacks.

As in the Sunderbans area tribal people declared they have to walk onvery long distance (several kilometres) before being able to reach an hospital. Several villages neither have doctor nor practitioner doctor (ie practitioner that learned from the filled and working as a doctor without getting any medical degree). A project for the construction of a mobile health centre is under consideration.

These two projects will be accomplished with the US “Mukti for Social Development” and the Indian “Desire India” NGOs

Feel free to contact us for further information about a project or for supporting one of our actions.
