Girls' Orphanage, Kegalle
The orphanage is currently home to 38 girls aged 6-18 years, supervised by a team of five people. They are all educated and healthy.
Support classes in math and English are taught each week.
The needs are many, starting with the food. Indeed, the food supply is running on a system of grants and the surrounding villages can not provide it, the food runs out. Problem especially important in times of crisis where food prices have doubled or tripled for some products. That is why we decided to implement a program consisting of the provision of basic foodstuffs when the need arises (rice, powdered milk, oil ....) and a steady supply of milk powder for every child drink a glass of milk a day.
150kg of rice and milk powder, corresponding to the base of 1'740 meals and 2'400 glasses of milk were given during our first visit in July 2009. Since then, Buddhima, coordinator in Sri Lanka, takes care of a regular replenishment.
The electrical system, already really damaged, was brought up to standard after torrential rains in May 2010.
Following the torrential floods of May and December 2010, InMaLanka worked with disaster victims in the center of the country. Food and non food items (bed linen, school supplies, kitchen utensils, stove) were distributed in early 2011.
Almost all missing here, so we also rely on your generosity.
Keep in mind that here one euro can buy 2 and a half kg of rice and every gesture, even a very small one, means a lot!
